Hello, Using the current magit packages from Melpa, doing magit-clone on a github project I get a "Not inside a Git repository" error message on *Messages* on the minibuffer after answering "yes" to the question "Set `remote.pushDefault' to origin?". However, checking .git/config does show that the setting took place.
