Hi Teresa, As a work-around you could create a group to which students submit their portfolios. Most artefacts are locked upon submission and thus students can't make changes while the page is assessed. See http://manual.mahara.org/en/1.7/portfolio/feedback.html#feedback-for- assessment

There appears to be a blueprint, Tracking outcomes (Registered on 2012-04-12), that seems be along the same lines as this feature request. I am not registering a bug, but a wishlist/feature request. This could perhaps be a plugin, or a feature that can be turned off if it is not being used by an education institution, or business.
