page searching needs optimisation

Bug description:
On very large installations (eg, more than 200,000 pages) the page
search gets extraordinarily slow, taking many minutes to complete on
average servers. Logically, slower servers would be ill equipped to
serve moderately large sites.
The page search query needs to be optimised to make this less of a
problem.
