You use their API to pass them a URL to, say, a New York Times article, and they read the URL, fetch the right embed for it, and send you back an iframe to embed that NYT article nicely. There is a non-core embed.ly block written by Gregor Anzelj: https://mahara.org/user/anzeljg/embedly-blocktype This block works great, but it is a little awkward that if you activate it, your users get two blocks: "External media" and "embed.ly", and these both essentially do the same thing. What would be better, is that we put optional support for embed.ly dircetly into the "External media" block. So, we provide a space for the site admin to enter an embed.ly API key. If they do that, then we change the help text for the "External media" block so that it indicates you can just paste the site URL in for the whole wide range of sites that embed.ly supports.
