Dear Kristina and Don, Today we had our first Webconf meeting to start the process in organising the next Moodlemoot and Mahara Hui FR. We have two universities competing to organise the event but it seems that Brussels is our top proposition so far. The final decision is taken by the 20th of this month after a quick vote of the francophone community.
The association in charge of the organisation – moodlemoot.fr <http://moodlemoot.fr/> - in which you already know some of their members from Moodlemoot FR in Sion (Switzerland) two years ago (Nicolas Martignoni - president, Séverin Terrier, Thierry Spriet, Paula, Nicolas Thorel, and me) has decided to sign a contract with MoodleHD to become the official Moodlemoot FR. This contract, we already talked quickly about it at Sion, impose some constraints in terms of communication and it seems that Martin Dougiamas is quite strict on the fact that no other brands from other LMS vendors can be seen when official Moodlemoots are organised. Nicolas Martignoni has asked many times MoodleHD and Martin to have the right to organise and communicate at the same time about a Moodlemoot and a Mahara Hui FR. Nicolas told us today that these demands were always declined. The consequence of this is that there is a high risk that next year there won’t be any communication about Mahara Hui FR 2018. The call for papers for the Moodlemoot Fr 2018 will be open to ePortfolio contributions but they would be part of the moot and not anymore put behind the banner of the Mahara francophone community. This also there won’t be any opportunity to display Mahara sign, banners, or flyers. When we quickly talk about that matter you told me that you – Catalyst – could maybe intercede with MoodleHQ to find an agreement or to discuss the possibility to join Mahara Hui to Moodlemoot branding for different occasions. In the French community the history is that we started the first Hui with the help of the Moodlemoot.fr <http://moodlemoot.fr/> organisation because it was making sense, because in the comity we were using or being Mahara advocate. If moodlemoot.fr <http://moodlemoot.fr/> has to follow the strict rules imposed by MoodleHD, it means we have to solutions: 1/ stop talking and advertising about Mahara Hui FR and still having papers presented on Mahara and ePortfolios during the Moodlemoot FR, without branding 2/ organise at a different time in the year a proper Mahara Hui FR. I would like to hear your voice on this matter to see how Catalyst envisions the maintaining and development of Mahara Hui FR and the francophone community. Happy for a chat on Skype of Google HangOut at some point, if needed. All the best, Dominique-Alain Jan PS : I will be down under in Mai-June to present my thesis and also to seek for a new professional challenge -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara.
