Group view block - broken display - too many shared views?

Bug description:
On opening group about page experience the following behaviour:
1. As an administrator of the group you see a list of views shared with the
group.
2. As a group member you see a blank about page.

I have managed to restore normality by:
1. Removing the group view block from the database OR
2. Removing about 9 view shares with this group from the view_access table in
the DB. (it doesn't make any difference which view shares I remove)
It seems as though the group views block is causing the trouble and
that number of views is directly impacting the display.
According to the database there are 213 views shared with this group.
