Change icon for read messages in "Recent activity / "My inbox"

Bug description:
from a Mahara user:
"I'd like to suggest that when messages are read, the icon automatically
changes from a closed envelope to an open envelope. I had several read
messages but under "recent activity", the icon next to the message was a closed
envelope which makes it difficult to see what is new and what is old."
