I suggested Mahogany to a colleague and he was interested, but already
using one he liked called PocoMail (mainly because it can be moved
around machine to machine in a self-contained manner which is nice --
http://www.pocomail.com/admins.html -- that's a good idea for
Mahogany if it's not already capable of same).

While visiting their site, I saw another feature that seems nice,
and submit it here for Mahogany if it's relevant.

Private message viewing

With the explosion of HTML mail that allows the sender to style a
message, advertisers and spammers have come up with ways to better
track the exact receipt and time of viewing of each message they send.
When you download such a message, it references images that are stored
on the sender's computer which you will download. The catch is that
the location from which you are downloading the image is unique to
your message and the sender can then cross-reference which recipient
received their message and when they read it, how many times, from
what IP address, etc. When advertisers use this ability, it is usually
just a small intrusion on your privacy. More importantly, it is used
by spammers to verify which addresses in their database are "live", so
that they can send more junk mail and/or sell your address. PocoMail
can get around this by simply disallowing any external HTTP requests
when reading messages - just depress the Image Download toggle button
(on top of the preview pane), or go to E-mail menu and uncheck
Download Message Images, to stop any outgoing connections.
