Here is a log file where M did give me a 'Frankenstein'. 

My understanding is that the problem comes from the fact that the
connexion between M and my (local) POP3 server breaks right after the
body of the mail being downloaded. It seems that there is a missing
check around there...

I did reproduce this problem several times during the last few minutes,
but I may have to revert to a safer configuration to be bale to read my
mail...

Maybe solving this problem will solve the general case as well...
