Because the library author doesn't accept the outside patches and its behaviour is unfortunately unacceptable in several places -- for example, it doesn't use POP3 TOP because when it was written (20 or so years ago I guess) this command wasn't wide spread. And, of course, using TOP is crucial for getting a quick overview of POP headers. BTW, normally you shouldn't care about this but if you, I'd like to warn you that I'm going to update to the latest cclient release a.s.a.p. The makefiles shouldn't change however (not that I wouldn't like to change them but I don't have time for this).
