There were in fact 2 bugs:
1. EnsureAvailableTextEncoding() wasn't called so text in encoding not directly
supported by the system wasn't shown correctly
2. wxTextCtrl::GetValue() in wxMSW lost all characters not representable in
current encoding -- I added a hack to work around this
The real solution would, of course, be to build M in Unicode...
