this is from a debug build i did on the 14th with reasonably current sources.

redhat 8.0, icons copied into the share directory rather than doing make
install.

i have a message which when selected reliably causes the following three
messages, followed by a crash:

[Debug] 04:44:36 PM: .src/gui/wxllist.cpp(406): assert "wxAssertFailure" failed: 
invalid icon
[Debug] 04:44:40 PM: .src/gui/wxllist.cpp(487): assert "wxAssertFailure" failed: 
invalid wxLayoutObjectIcon
[Debug] 04:44:41 PM: .src/gui/wxllist.cpp(487): assert "wxAssertFailure" failed: 
invalid wxLayoutObjectIcon
Segmentation fault

if anyone wants, i'll try it from inside gdb in order to get a backtrace. i can supply
the actual message causing the problem if desired.
