Yes, this has been fixed since - if you use the latest cvs sources (and wxWindows from the cvs as well) you will be able to read the message normally (as I just did). In fact, it didn't really hang it was just trying to retrieve the images from the remote server which wasn't responding, but the net effect is, of course, the same (unless you're ready to wait for a day or two until all timeouts finally expire).
