You certianly don't have to do this. There are 2 ways to set the global columns widths: 1. Do "Edit|Preferences...", go to the "Folder View" page and select the "Edit columns" button, then enter the widths in pixels there 2. Much more user friendly way: drag the columns in any folder to the poistions you like, then right click the header, choose "Columns..." and check the "Save as default" in the resulting dialog - now the same widths will be used for all the other folders (except those for which you configure the widths differently epxlicitly, of course) MAC> 3.
