if I select a mailbox by clicking on the mailbox name in the left hand
tree display of mailboxes, and I type crtl-u to bring up the next
unread message, focus stays in the tree display and is not moved to
the message window.

it seems to me that focus should shift because the next operation one
wants to perform is usually something pertaining to the mail message
such as delete the message or go to the next message.

Another ctrl-U oddity occurs when you have the message display set up
so that you do not display the any initial message but require human
intervention to display the first message. the problem shows up when
you select a mailbox. If things are set up right, the first unread
message is outlined but not displayed. If you type ctrl-u, you don't
select the first unread message but instead select the next unread
message.

One could argue that that is the correct behavior but I find myself
constantly being surprised that I'm not reading the message I thought
I would.
