I don't know what you mean with relevant... I'll send an example:

$ grep jpeg /etc/mailcap
image/jpeg; /usr/X11R6/bin/xv '%s'; description="JPEG Image"; test=test "$DISPLAY"

$ grep jpeg ~/.mailcap
image/jpeg; /usr/bin/eog '%s'; description="JPEG Image"; test=test "$DISPLAY" != ""

And when I open a jpeg file in M, xv is opened. Midnight Commander (for
example) opens oeg as spected.

Please, tell me if you need any other thing...
