Unfortunately due to some unrelated events in the RL I couldn't work on
this since the end of August. This is the single most important new feature
for me personally to add to Mahogany so you may be sure that it is going to
be done sooner or later but I can't say when. Right now the most urgent is
to fix a few bad oustanding bugs and release a new version so this risks to
be postponed for 0.67.

Yes, I think someone has already done it. But it involved hand-tweaking
Mahogany options -- and, of course, the idea is to make this unnecessary.

Unfortunately not. Some code is already there but nothing user-visible yet...

I don't promise to implement it right now but I'd still be interested to
hear your ideas about how this should be done. It would be nice if you
could make proposals in the framework of the existing code which is based
on the notion of the so called config sources:
