It turns out that the problem with Mahogany attachments is not Netscape specific, although my new correspondent did not mention the server. He did mention that the assignment of the full path to the NAME parameter meant he could not access the attachment I sent him. He was using IE to access some kind of webmail.
Nerijus mentioned that handling of the NAME parameter assignment is fixed in CVS, so on the assumption that this is the true problem, I am now anxiously awaiting a new snapshot for Windows. (I know, I know: I should learn to compile the damn thing. But I'm sure I'm not alone ...) Thanks, Alan PS Oddly, as I informed Vadim, Netscape handles *small* attachments from Mahogany fine.
