In this case messages marked for deletion are not purged. Mahogany only sends a QUIT when the pop folder is closed. So if Mahogany is doing a lot of filtering and moving messages to large files than it may be a while after the last message is retrieved before the QUIT is sent. I personally use a dial-up connection so explicitly retrieve my mail by openning the pop folder. If I do not babysit the program and quickly close the folder once my message are removed they are not deleted from the server. I have looked at the Mahogany code to see if the QUIT could be sent earlier, but it would take a major rewrite to make it work. So we are stuck with it. My advice is if you route your messages to a New Mail folder make sure it is empty before retrieve new messages. And make sure no time intensive activity, such as spam filtering, is going on while messages are being moved from the pop folder. Postpone all that after messages are retrieved and the pop folder is closed.
