 Yes, this would be nice to have but I don't plan to do it -- simply not
important enough compared with other things.

 This would be the way to do it, yes, but after a quick look this is still
very much a work in progress and doesn't look like an easily pluggable
library (it's more of a tool which you could use for "open with..." from
M).
