 If only MH folders worked correctly, I'd just recommend using MH format:
then the mail folders *are* directories in the file system. But
unfortunately due to the limitations in MH driver, this wouldn't be a good
idea right now. Also, I didn't understand the part about text/html: the
separate files still would in MBOX format, i.e. they'd include the headers
and the, possibly encoded, body.

 The only way I can see is, again, to "migrate" your folders to MH format.
This probably shouldn't be very difficult, basically just the type of the
folders being created (dstLocal.format in src/modules/Migrate.cpp).
