I would guess for the student's project to be successful he will need support both, from Drupal people (for the integration side of the project) and from Mahout people (for the how to use the recommender side of the project). To me that sounds like a cross-project proposal - which is always exciting to see. So my proposal would be to find at least a co-mentor in the Drupal project. Isabel
