People doing interesting things with Hadoop *that they can talk
about* are invited to give a lightning presentation on their work.
Please can you also publicise this event to get a good turnout.

Hi again, another update.
Have worked out the details on food and drinks.
Yahoo! will be paying for a light lunch "sandwich, fruit, drink and
crisps (meat and veggie options available)" and ~70 beer (and some non
alcoholic options.
Skills matter (the venue) will sponsor us with 50 beers.
I'd still like to find someone else to present and need some help with
this. Joost couldn't do it unfortunately.
Ideally I'd like to see some talks/lightning on the many projects that
use hadoop: HBase, Mahout, Pig, Hive, Cascading etc.
Tim Sell (intern at last.fm) have promised to do a lightning talk on
his
project: postgresql -> hbase replication.
Miles Osborne (see below) will do a lightning talk on how they're
using
hadoop and nutch in their research.
I'll update the event description with mention of food/drinks and send
another email to the list.
Any other pr would be great to fill the last slots, might write
something on the last.fm blog about it.
Ideas for panel topics? Future direction for hadoop?
Updated the schedule a bit. The last slots could be compressed to
fit in
another presentation (and Last.fm doesn't have to present this time if
another good speaker steps forward).
We'll get thrown out of the venue at 17.00.
10.00 -> 10.45: Doug Cutting (Project founder, Yahoo!) - Hadoop
overview
10.45 -> 11.30: Tom White (Lexemetech) - Hadoop on Amazon S3/EC2
11.30 -> 12.15: Steve Loughran and Julio Guijarro (HP) - Smartfrog and
Hadoop
12.15 -> 13.15: Lunch
13.15 -> 14.00: Martin Dittus and Johan Oskarsson (Last.fm) - Hadoop
usage at Last.fm
14.00 -> 15.00: Lightning talks (5-10 minutes each?)
15.00 -> 16.00: Panel discussion
16.00 -> 17.00: Beer!
17.00 -> xx.xx: Wandering to a nearby pub
