Hello everyone.
In Germany, our best Ultimate Youth program has been the well organized
Junior National Ultimate Championships structures and organization provided
by the German federation and supporting structures through the stronger
clubs in the different regions. These clubs host the other teams in their
regions and both benefit by having single day qualification tournaments
prior to the Championship event.

With regional tournaments ALL teams, small teams trying to start a team and
stronger teams, can participate with a reasonable travel distance. The
qualification is often a single day tournament without needing to stay
overnight. Low cost and easy to host! If the distances are not so far or if
there are very few teams, maybe a National Championship event welcoming all
teams (and Pickup players) would be appropriate.

The German Federation provides the online registration platform for the
teams to play in the qualification events in the different regions. The
best teams then travel to the 2 day Championship event to find the Champion
in each Junior division. These regional events provide the opportunity for
new developing teams to play and the best teams support the efforts to
develop Ultimate in the regions.

If no one wants to host a qualification tournament, the region (or country)
is doomed to insignificance in the future! As always, it is the individuals
with the Ultimate dream creating the opportunities for the kids to play
Ultimate! ...But they need the tools and organization platform to get
organized.

This follows the lessons learned concept that:
New players just need to "Play Ultimate"!!

I think the example here in Germany shows that the federation needs to
provide the opportunity for the teams to get organized, but the local
Ultimate people need to do the work! Dine Fischer, Geschäftsführerin
Ultimate-Abteilung (Operating Manager of the Ultimate Branch in the German
Federation) has used the federation tools to encourage junior development
in the different regions. She contacts the existing Ultimate clubs early in
the indoor and outdoor seasons using the National Frisbee Sport discussion
platform (Wurfpost) to get the teams involved. Make sure you have a list of
clubs in your region (including neighboring countries maybe?).

Small one day tournaments for everyone. Easy! Just do it!
