Worldwide Pantnagar Alumni Association (WPAA)
Monthly Newsletter, June 4, 2002
------------------------------------------------
Greetings !

WPAA continues to grow at a steady pace, working hard and striving to achieve its
objective of bringing Pantnagar alumni together. This brings up once again the same
question that I have asked you before (and am asking it again today), "Where exactly
do we want to go from here ?".

Creating a web site, arranging get-togethers, meeting old friends and exchanging posts
via the mailing-list is just the beginning but it definitely is not the ultimate
objective. The ultimate goal of all of us coming together under WPAA is to establish
ourselves as a solid, stable and dependable entity - the one that would not only
support its alma mater but the Pantnagar community as well.

It is absolutely fine to have fun as we go along but let us not get side-tracked - we
need to take care of the business too. And the business of the day is to put ourselves
in a position where we can be of some help to the students, faculty and the community
in Pantnagar.

I had a chance to read Sam Pitroda's column in last month's SiliconIndia where he
talks about different models that have worked wonders in India. These are by no means
giant corporations or multinational sponsored projects. One I can recall is about a
husband-wife team of doctors who felt the need to do something for the community in
India. They visited a small village in Gujarat, revived an old hospital building,
worked with their friends in US to collect funds and finally succeeded in establishing
a full-fledged medical facility in the region. In fact, many of their doctor friends
are still contributing anywhere between a week to months of their time as a free
service.

Well, that indeed is some dedication. I am not saying ALL of us need to be that much
dedicated but think about it - how big a difference we ALL can make if each one of us
puts in our share ! I don't think it should take much to visit Pantnagar and spend
some time with the students and faculty - exchange ideas, share information and help
them strengthen ties with their alumni.

Folks, think about it and please let us know if you have some ideas and/or
suggestions. It is time that we move on to next gear and make our presence felt. And
as I have emphasized it time and again, it can only be done if we all are in it
together.

In that case, let us start with paying our membership dues first. As you all know that
there is a minimal annual fee associated with WPAA membership - Rs. 100/- or USD 12/-,
as the case may be. This fee helps us take care of all its maintenance expenses and
also in planning projects for the benefit of Pantnagar students and our alma mater.
Please, please, take a minute and send in your payments to any of the following two
addresses depending upon where you live. Further details are available at
http://wpaa.org/

Mr. Girish Solanki ! Mr. Joseph Dolphin

I looked into accepting credit card payments through WPAA website and here are the
details:

- One time setup fee - $150/-
- Minimum monthly expenses - $25/- plus some minimal charges on every credit card
transaction.

So, until we have enough e-transactions to cover this charge, it makes more sense to
put it on hold.

And finally, a reminder that we love to hear from you - your feedback, comments and
anything that you would like us to know, is highly appreciated. Please write to us at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Here are the tasks that WPAA is currently working on:

A sum of USD 3000 was collected for Computer Engineering Department, College of

Computer Engineering Department, Prof. R N Mishra later informed us via an email that
a decision had been made to purchase a LCD projector for the department.

WPAA would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who contributed towards
this Fund Drive' and helped it make a success.
