None of the above work on a  M$ Windows unless you provide the necessary
software .
Same is the case with GNU/Linux,  provide necessary driver softwares, it will
work.
Avoid buying hardwares which does not come with drivers for GNU/Linux.

You have to mount the cdrom under /mnt/cdrom or enabe automount
The related files are fstab and mtab. Read the man pages of fstab, mount etc.
for this issue the command man fstab and man mount for the manuals of fstab
and mount.

Use CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) for your printer.

There is  driver for (RedHat Package Manager  - rpm) SM56 modem.
