I suppose your friends are  bleeding edge, right? Can they get an
opinion from someone who is an average user or in Torvalds' words
"some one who just want to get their chore over and  done with".
If his opionion is bad, I guess that would be another failure 
of the desktop experiment:-(

Hmm.. I hope in the long run Open Software Community also benefits.
I have seen reports that they have uncovered lots of bugs in KDE2.

I am yet to see a decent interview with one of core in Lindows. 

Did you test ELX? They have gone so far as to put Network Neighbourhood
on Desktop?! I didn't test it. They are from Hydbad, India.
