Helllo evry1 i could defintly help. Sorry i cant com for the meeting on Sun evng. But i could give u all the help i can. I study in College of Engg, Chengannur. But i stay in Ekm... I do meet Sameer occasionally. So anythin i can do...just mail me..or just tell sameer to convey the message. Sameer is right. The mailing list is blessing. Plez do continue to update evry1 on the decisions u make.Whn is the IT Fair??Please do mention the date..an approx date would do!!How long is it?Duration??
It might be very difficult to get the general public to use Linux in Kerala...Ofcoz Linux is free..But as far as the general public is considered .so is evrythin. So we shldn't forget to mention the seriousness of using pirated software. IDEAS:: If u could show them tht linux runs faster ..and bettr than any windows..in any machine. then Mayb.. Plz dont just concentrate on state of the art machines..Most ppl cant afforrd those..and doesn't hav those..It would be a challenge to show Linux workin butiful is some ollld PC's...Most of the offices, cafe's,schools and the lot uses old pc's...and if u could only show that linux is bttr...thn ...we r on to somthin. Would it be possibl to set up two machines .One runnin Linux..and the othr windows..and compare the result... Most cooperates would luv to knw how Linux performs in a network. How Linux is bettr of than windows..as far as network and security is concerned. But is it possible to demonstrate that in IT Fairs??? Mayb we shld make memos etc etc that explain a lot of stuff that cant be shown... soo yezzz...We need to design Posters, memos etc etc. FUND:: How much of a funding do we require? Basic Fund?? We could approach all the institutes that provide linux services and coaching classes.- RHCE..etc etc. They would only be too eager to fund for the advsmnt. There shld be a lot of those in cochin by now. How many companies does offer linux services..or use linux in cochin? Hav u conducted a survey or somthin. We shld make a list of ppl that needs to be contacted. But considering advsmnt, we need to specify som reason why it would be bettr for these ppl to advertise thru our stall than through any othr. One thing is sure ..they need advisemnt..and IT FAIR is a prtty good place for tht. we could sell stuff at our stall....just for the sake of funds.Like mayb knoppix cd's..or latest linux distros..T-shirts/caps with great Linux captions..and the lik..Linux Stuff that would be otherwise difficult to purchase or obtain.. we could tie up with some1 who wants a stall and is lookin for funds too. A guy with a comp store would be a wonderful choice..that way we could demonstrate linux on his comps. He would b happy too. Should we try Branded PC's. Compaq is releasin PC's with linux on them. They might lend us PC's.or..ACER-notebooks with linux on them.Heard they beat the 50k price barrier. Mayb they would help. But as far as branded PC's are considered they might as well set up their own stall. But they might as well help. We could try our bst. MORE IDEAS :: ..and plz dont forget to demonstrate the most common tasks..Office tools..Using Printer..with linux. GuideLines to using internal modem with linux...Multimedia..Internet..etc etc..The common man's world. Just Let ppl knw tht ILUG-COCHIN exists and i am pretty much sure...They would only be too eager to accept Linux. for linux Hashir ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sameer Thahir" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 06, 2004 12:58 AM Subject: [Mailinglist] Get going > dear ilug members > > > it was definitely an encouraging mail from Mr. Dinakar Mohana Pai > thanks > > what i think is that > > The Members may have difficulty coming to meetings but what is the > difficulty in sending > mails , atleast we communicate although not so effectively thru mails > > in a mailing list like ours every mail counts > > so why dont everyone send ur ideas and suggestions no matter how small they > are > or how stupid they are. > > I say this especially for the younger student community of the mailing list > . > > besides , why dont u guys join us in doing some great like this. we require > all ur support. > > cos if we dont have support , its difficult to move forward. > > i think JJ has done his part in the initiation process.
