Subject: [Mailinglist] fedora core 2 - installation prob
Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Dear evrybody
I was trying to install fedora core 2 to dual boot with win2000.

i downloaded the 4 iso's from download.fedora.redhat.com into my /dev/hda5 in a
folder named r. So the exact path would b /dev/hda5/r.

My aim is to instll f core2 from the iso's. But i didnt hav a fedora core 2
boot disk. So i used my old redhat 9 cd to boot into rescue mode..mounted
/dev/hda5 and then the iso image of cd1. Then i did dd to copy the diskboot.img
(of mountd iso)to floppy.

When i rebooted the system..i get the message 'BOOT FAILURE'.

So i tried to install the fedora iso's usin the rh9 cd. I gav the foll command:

boot: linux askmethod
then i choose to install from harddrive.

i gave partition as /dev/hda

and folder as : r/

but the redhat 9 cd is complain tht thr are no iso's in tht folder. Is seems
that the redhat is unable to identify the iso's.

The iso's were name as FC2-i386-disc1.iso ..etc.

I had successfully installed rh9 from iso once..But now complty troubled.

Is it possible to upgrade from rh9 to fedora thru the iso's.?...or did i do
somthin wrong.?

Thr r currntly no linux partitons in this system.

PLEASE HELP.

regards
hashir

Dear Hashir:

You can mount the iso using

unix>mount -t iso9660 <mount point> some.iso

So, mount ur first ISO, and get the boot image for the fedora core 2 itself.
I think u need the boot image that comes with the cd itself to detect
the ISOs from ur hd.

Another option is to download the boo images from fedora.redhat.com itself

Looking forward to hear the the great story
