dear friends,
I think I have a strange problem.
I was using the unlimited account of Asianet. I wanted to switch to the
Rs. 199 scheme. After a lot of hastle, I got a program called crclient
installed on the system, using redhat. I logged in and was working
happily for half an hour.
Unfortunately I shut down the system without logging out. It seems the
connection was severed and the hours were NOT ticking at the Asianet
billing section (that is the only good fortune I had for the last few
weeks). Next time i wanted to log in, I typed crclient -u <usrname> at
the terminal and I got a message crclient already logged in with
process id 1008. I cannot find or kill this process. I get the same
message even when the modem is not connected. The asianet service
engineers were here. they were also not able to find how to solve the
problem. (I asked if I could get the same done on windows, and they
told it is not advisable because 'only' 300 of their xp and 2000
customers are having trouble with virus in the last week). Finally they
have installed the same programme on debian partition. That is how this
mail reaches you.
Besides the problem, I think some script to log in and automaticaly
logout on shut down must be there. IT is empty to expect an ordinary
user to go to the terminal to log in to the internet. (especially when
they only use the net to send mails.) Asianet despite the bitter
experiences with windows does not appear to be encouraging the use of
linux.It is upto us.
Any suggestion to find the lurking process and kill it. I have a shoot
at sight order. :)
