Nice link. But I have a query. The above link describes a method where
appending 'single' drops you into a root shell without asking for the
password. I have used this method in the past with success on Fedora
systems, and now I see it works in Gentoo too. But it does not work on
many distros. As far as I remember it does not work in SUSE and/or
Ubuntu.
