I'm not sure, but cdrecord doesn't like IDE devices very much.  I believe it
insists on truning on the SCSI-emulation on those IDE devices before burning
the disks.  In kernel 2.4 you had the choice of passing a kernel parameter of
"hdb=ide-scsi", where hdb is your CD-RW.  Can't say that for Kernel 2.6. Anyway
checks the kernel-parameters.txt in the kernel source.
