Warm Greetings To The FOSS Community, The Meeting for the month of December was conducted successfully. The were 18 people who attended the meeting.
The meeting started of as usual with the Proposed Agenda "Ways Of Contributing to Free Software". The Agenda Presentation comprised of the following sections : . Innovations in free software. . Contributing to Free Software. . Free software wish list. . What the ILUG can do to help you. . How you can help the LUG. . Making Money with Free Software ?? The talk started with explaining about the basics of Free Software and Open Source. It went on talk about the article written by Bruce Byfield which talked about the "Innovations in Free Software". The Important points in the article were briefly discussed. The next section covered the main portion of the Agenda. It explained in detail about the different ways of contributing to Free Software which comprised of the following sections : - Spreading awareness about Free Software. - Helping Others with Free Software. - Contributing Ideas of new features to existing Free Software Applications. - Writing/ Translating Documentation and Manuals. - Testing Free Software on specific Hardware. - Reporting Bugs. Each section talked about the practical methods for efficiently performing the tasks pertaining to each kind of contribution. The different sections were explained in the following context - When to do it - How to do it - Things we need to remember while doing it Different practical examples were cited for each of the various topics. After the Agenda Presentation, the attendees moved on have tea and the special christmas cake ( Thanks to Balakrishnan Sir ). The customary Self Introduction was quickly done, after the Coordinator talked about ILUG Cochin and its activities. The attendees moved on to the Technical Presentation. The Technical Presentation was "Installing GNU/Hurd" . The basic aspects of an OS and Installation were briefly explained, after which a demonstration of the Installation steps was done. The Installation was successfully completed and a few attendees had gained enough confidence to do an Installation by themselves. After the presentation the attendees spoke about the immediate activity they planned to do after the meeting. Some of them who had come for the last meeting, talked about how they had accomplished some tasks they planned to do after last months meeting. The feedback from the attendees were also collected. The Meeting was wound up by 6:00 pm. Indeed the last meeting of 2007 was very enjoyable and the members were able to gain a lot of ideas. 2007 was indeed a great year for ILUG, with a host of activities and great participation in the meetings. We look forward to the same kind of enthusiasm in the coming year and hope the next meeting is bigger and better.
