There is a better one ..
its GTK-RECORDMYDESKTOP
and can b installed by

  SUDO APT-GET INSTALL GTK-RECORDMYDESKTOP RECORDMYDESKTOP

   xvidcap can only grab the parts of the screen within that red  
bordered rectangle..and that's all one wants at times..

   But gtk-recordmydesktop grabs screen in full and records it in  
ogg-Theora format..Strangely in my computer gtk-recordmydesktop is  
smooth..but xvidcap is really heavy and when xvidcap starts up ..rest  
of stuff goes on slowmo..

   just my thoughts..
