Meeting Agenda : " Nurturing Young Minds using the Concept of Free
Software "
(proposed)

The concept of Swathanthra Software has undoubtedly been one of the most
noble thoughts
of the century emphasizing the simple fact that "knowledge needs
to be free and none has the rights to curb it". It has grown from a
small group of hackers to a worldwide.
thriving community. The most important aspect is the spread of the idea
to other fields,
which has in turn encouraged conception of ideas like Wikipedia and
Creative Commons.

We are quite lucky in Kerala, that we have got this concept to be
embodied in our educational
system, maybe at a very small level, but at least we have it there. But
there seems to be a
big gap in understanding this aspect and implementing its core values at
the educational system.

In our meeting we attempt to examine, how our children and upcoming
generation will follow this
concept and how they will grow to help others and innovate to be the
gems of future India.

A small idea of what we need to discuss :

    * Concept of Free Software.
    * Free Software induces Sharing at every level.
    * Interacting in a global community for the benefit of Mankind.
    * Self learning and self reliant.
    * Understanding and differentiating the ethics and legal aspects.
    * Creative and Open Thinking leading to the real Innovation.

etc ...

We would have a healthy discussion with people from all fields
contributing thoughts.

Technical Presentation : " GNU/Linux Booting Sequence simplified " by Sameer

We often hear users complaining of machines that wont boot. We ask them
for inputs,
but they cannot say nothing more than this. The presentation of the
month, will take
us through a very simplified view of the Booting in a GNU/Linux
Operating System.
It will be chance for beginners as well as advanced users to gain an
insight on
what happens from "Power ON to the Bash Prompt". The presentation will
touch upon
the following:
- What happens when we push the power button ?
- What is Boot Sector, Boot Loader, Ramdisk, Kernel and Modules ??
- Who is Init ?
- Concept of Services and boot scripts.
- Login Prompt and the Shell
- GDM and Graphical Login Managers
- Changing your kernel and booting.
- Restoring a broken boot loader
- Troubleshooting normal boot issues.
- Modifying runtime scripts.
Although the list looks big we will focus on specific areas as per the
feedback from the attendees.

We will have our Q&A Session after the Technical Presentation.

Looking forward to all your participation for this exciting meeting!!!

Hoping to meet you all on Sunday

Thank You

Regards
