Namasthe,

Well, I have been going through the mailing list conversations over
quite some time, but being an oceanographer, was not able to
contribute much.

But today evening's meet had an interesting point, of GIS, which
offered myself and colleagues to interact with the group.

As Mr. jaisen has already pointed out, GIS or the subject
geoinformatics have wide potential to benefit society. However, the
proprietary softwares cost is a major hurdle, and without basic
investment in software, it is impossible to do the work.

That is where free/open source resources, both manware and software
assumes importance.

Being benefited by an intro of the subject, we believe, sooner we may
be able to discuss the technical aspects of geoinformatics. .free/open
source status as of present, and where the community needs
support..and also where ilug-k can offer..

In the total work flow of remote sensing and GIS, there are softwares
like OSSIM..

We hope, ilug-k will offer more talks and interaction on aspects on
simlar subjects where free/open souce can helps more.

Thanks for the motivation for migation to more intellectual freedom..!

regards,

smart, manu & sreejith.
