Open Letter to the ILUG Community
Dear All,
I always thought the objective of this group was to promote and spread the use
of Linux and other Free Software among all sections of society. To make such
statements like Mr. Madhu Kannan just did is to say that either the ILUG
members are inept at solving technical queries when it comes to matters other
than 'high funda programming', as he puts it across, and networking or that
ILUG does not promote Linux for any purposes other than the two above or that
Linux is not a good OS for gaming and multimedia, none of which are true. As a
Linux enthusiast and an avid gamer myself, I feel hurt by such statements and
hope that they are not repeated again in the future. Otherwise, newcomers to
Linux, who obviously are no experts, would feel discouraged and tend to
classify it as a geek-friendly OS, a popular misconception which many have
tried hard to dispel.
Just how exactly do you think all those Linux experts came to be experts in the
first place? I daresay they too were beginners when they started using Linux.
If they had not received enough support from other Linux users, they probably
would have abandoned Linux in favour of more user-friendly and sometimes even
proprietary operating systems. All that work done on improving the user
interface to make Linux more user-friendly in a bid to appeal to newcomers and
beginners would have gone down the drain if Linux was meant to be used only by
programmers and network adminstrators.
Regards,
Toby
ya ya you should only ask questions about some high funda programming
networking etc... questions about playing music and games are against the
"intended purpose" of this group . :-)
