Hello All,

As you can read from Sanal Kumar Sir's report, the program
was a great success. It was ILUG Cochins first active participation
at the school level and we are happy that the students received it
well.

The best feedback we got was when several students asked us
"When we would come back ? " . When I asked them when do
they want us to come, they said "next week".

Its probably the best indication as far as the output of the event
was concerned. The presence of people like Pramod Sir (MCA
Department Head, CUSAT) brought about a gathering of people
who valued freedom more than convenience.

It is always said that students always learn quicker, we saw it for
real when they started working flawlessly with Blender in the first
session by Zadeek, when many people talk about the complexity
of the interface. I think it reiterates the point that "its our brain
that makes things difficult".

The second session on Inkscape by Sreenadh was on a tight
schedule, but this is not stop the young ones from demonstrating their
learning abilities and artistic skills.

The press coverage has been very good, thanks to Anandan
from the Hindu (who was present at the final session with
teachers) and Basheer from Mathrubhumi, who has been
supporting us all the while.

Thanks to them two other schools in the district have already
requested us for conducting similar events at their place.

This event although small has been a feather in cap for ILUG Cochin.

A community becomes a community,  when it interacts with the society
at every level and ILUG Cochin has been doing that all the while.

Our campaign for teachers has got a boost with the program and we
hope to take forward the campaign to every nook of the district and
the state.

Of course this can only be achieved with the active participation of
each every individual in the community.

Sanal Kumar Sir who has been the brain behind the campaign
and the programme has helped ILUG Cochin to reach new heights.
Indeed without him our campaign would never have got off.
His vision and hard work has made the program a grand success.

JJ, Zadeek and Sreenadh even in spite of the very tight schedules
came and handled presentations. Unfortunately Binny could not make it.

Thank You

Regards
Sameer Mohamed Thahir

Dear all.......The "Swathanthra software sangamam" held in V.H.S.S.Irimpanam was a success as far as the students are concerned. The participation of ILUG members was less.Except that everything was ok.The "SANGAMAM" was inaugurated by Sri.Pramod , the Head of the Dept.of M.C.A. , CUSAT. The opening session on Blender by Zadiq was interesting both to teachers and students. Next session by Sreenadh also was interesting, but he didn't get enough time to elaborate on Inkscape. JJacob spoke on the basic principles of Free Software ie. freedom and truth.
The concluding session meant exclusively for teachers was led by J.J and Sameer . It was focused mainly on the topic "why linux in schools?"...Plz read the attached pdf file in Malayalam with photos......sanalkumar,vhss irimpanam,irimpanam.p.o, tripunithura, ernakulam
