They know exactly what they are doing. I believe that the goal of all
DRM Implementers are the same -> Get more profit in their business by
restricting the users. The same here too. They want to increase the
no: of copies sold this year. They are not bothered about the freedom
of the users of those VCDs. I think Apple iPOD with iTunes is a
perfect example of DRM.

It is a good idea. But sometimes it is easy to change the attitude of
students than changing the decision of the management. If students are
aware of DRM, they won't buy the VCD. So eventually, management will
change its decision.
Yes that would be the right way, but we must also talk to teachers about
this,
Anyway how can the Free Software community educate the students.?
I think distributing Anti DRM pamphlets ( in simple language for
students to understand) can at least trigger some thought
among them.

Hi,
Hi jos,
Thanks for sharing the information.
The management of Mary Matha High School, Thrikkakkara. is
planning to create VCDs of their anniversary programme, which
has DRM in it. They are planning to sell these VCDs to their
own students. These VCDs can be played in video players and
computers but the users are restricted to copy or rip the VCD.
Bad!!, I guess they have no idea of what they are doing.
Previous year they have done the same but it was a failure
because those VCDs, which they have created was not working in
some vedio players. But this time, I heard, they are trying to
find an efficient method to create VCDs, which has a perfect DRM.

I don't want to disclose the source of this news to you. But
it is true. I verified it. I believe that this type of nasty
things can happen in other schools too. So is it possible for
ILUG to do something to prevent this activity? Is it possible
to conduct a DRM AWARENESS session at Mary Matha so that the
students can escape from DRM?
I think we can contact the school directly and initiate a
discussion and educate them on the consequences of
what they are doing, what is DRM and the evil effects. Also since
as a part of of our initiative for schools, we already
have contacts of schools and teachers, we can also alert them on
the evil effects that DRM can have, so that
it can bring about a larger awareness.
