ILUG Cochin is putting up a Stall at the Information Security Day -
Cyber Safe 2009 by Kochi City Police
on Saturday.
Date : Saturday 08/08/2009.
Time : From 9 am to 7 pm.
Venue : Town Hall
Ernakulam North.
(Near Ernakulam Town Railway Station)
Theme : Security With Freedom
The organizers of the program had contacted us last week and offered us
a stall free of cost.
(Because of which it is feasible.) The reason behind this was their
interest to promote Free Software as a
secure platform and their honest desire for the participation from the
community.
Planned activities :
- Talk by Jay Jacob, Siju George, Sameer, Sreenadh and Venkat
( Topics relating to Security )
- At the Stall
- Provide awareness about Free Software ( through posters and
personal interactions )
- Why Free Software has the capability to be Secure.
- How security can be implemented at home, office, schools and
internet cafes.
- Put up a few PCs <javascript:;> and Laptops running various
Internet, Office and Graphical Applications.
- Demonstration of an LTSP Thin Client setup.
- Demonstration of basic security tools on GNU/Linux
- Distributing GNU/Linux, Free Media for money or gratis.
- Install Fest
I guess it would be the first one at Kochi.
We have been able to form a small team for saturday about 5 people who
can be at the stall,
Since its a one day event on a weekend , the crowd would be quite good,
hope some members
of the list can spare some time and volunteer to participate in the
stall and for other activities.
So you are all personally invited for the event on Saturday which starts
at 9 am. Please join the team in
making it a grand success.
