ILUG Cochin participated in Cyber Safe 2009, http://www.informationsecurityday.com/cybersafe/index.html an event conducted by the Kochi City Police, Asian School of Cyber Laws and others. Following are the details of the participation at the event.
Date : 08th August 2009 Time : 9.30pm - 5.30pm Volunteers from ILUG Cochin Sreenadh H Sameer Harikrishnan Manu Ram Venkat Kevin Sha Shibin Sreenivasan Siju George Muhammed Russel Jay Jacob Joel Activities : Stall with theme "Security with Freedom" from 9.30pm - 4.00pm attracted people who visited the venue. Many of the visitors where people eager to learn more about Free Software. Many officers from kerala police and cyber cell also visited the stall to clear doubts about Networking on GNU/Linux. The turnout was less but the visitors were very much enlightened. Machines were used to demonstrate various GNU/Linux applications. LTSP clients were also setup. Volunteers distributed flyers and pamphlets containing information on Free Software and ILUG Cochin. Seminars : Jay Jacob : Introduction to Free Software and ILUG Cochin. The talk introduced the basic concepts of Free Software and talked about the activities of ILUG Cochin. The talk also threw light on how ILUG Cochin and the Free Software community could play a vital role in implementing several technologies that were being planned by the Cyber Cell. Siju George : The need for Secure Software Solutions using FOSS. The transcript has been made available in the Mailing List already. Joel : Thwarting Digital Identity Thefts using Free Software . The talk basically explained the concept of digital identity and explained how one is usually subjected to digital identity malpractices. The talk threw light on some very common issues faced by the public. It was concluded by explaining how Free Software can help prevent such problems. Sameer, Concluded the seminar by asking people to give importance to their privacy and at the same time securing their lives. Venkat and Joel were presented certificates for participating in the "Capture the Flag" contest. Our sincere thanks to the following people from making ILUG Cochin a part of this event.
