This is not what APT docs say. Maybe graphical tools flush the cache before 
attempting to download new packages. Maybe I'm wrong. Please correct me on this 
one.

Also, graphical tools like Synaptic does not allow to mark, and then exit the 
tool before going ahead with the operation. In aptitude, you can mark 
install/uninstall/hold, exit the tool, and come back later to proceed with 
operation.
