Hi sanal,
Actually, its not the pixels that count, but the dpi - dots per inch.
For example for a 100x100 image, with a dpi of 200 dpi would measure
0.5x0.5 inches. If you print the same image at 400 dpi, then you get a
0.25x0.25 inch image. That is, at 400 dpi, you would need a 400x400
image to print 1 inch square.
Strictly speaking, the DPI is not an image attribute, but an attribute
of the display device. You specify the dpi you want when you print. So
its the dpi that you should be playing with.
The 51x37 pixel image would give you stamp size on a display device with
80 dpi -- typically many computer screens. However I think 51x37 is too
small to be clear. Most printers use 200 dpi. In fact some image
printing programs would let you specify the physical size directly and
calculate the dpi itself.
Don't reduce the pixel count, change the dpi when printing or use a
printing software that let us say the physical size directly.
Regards
Manoj

Does anybody think that the pixel values for a stamp size image given
here enough to get the quality image.? Can pixel values be replaced
with 1.8cm x1.3 cm ie stamp size? In other words 51x37 with 1.8cm x
1.3 cm ? Any idea? Thanks in advance....sanal

I have verified that the following gives the maximum
picture quality.
$convert -resize 51x37 -quality 100% sanal.jpg san.JPEG
