Hi

The SATA cable and Power cable of my hard disk were loosely connected.
I was running ubuntu 10.04 (lucid lynx) on my desktop.

Due to a small movement the hard-disk physical connection (SATA / Power) got
disconnected.
Now, I'm not able to boot Ubuntu. I get the grub and when I select ubuntu,
I get an error saying that the root drive - /dev/sda5 cannot be mounted and
I'm
thrown into *initramfs* console like -

*initramfs>*

I then tried booting my system using a live cd and ran gparted
(Still not able to mount that drive)

Using *gparted*, I tried checking filesystem for errors/consistency, but I
got the following error ->

*** (gpartedbin:4278): CRITICAL **: murrine_style_draw_box: assertion
`height >= -1' failed

** (gpartedbin:4278): CRITICAL **: murrine_style_draw_box: assertion `height

Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
/dev/sda5,
       missing codepage or helper program, or other error
       In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail  or so*

I have some important files in this partition. Will I be able to recover the
files?
Will I have to re-install Ubuntu formatting the partition ?

Please help.

Thanks

Krishnan
