Making a software Free doesn't mean that it won't contain malicious
features. It may have malicious features too. The fact is that the person
who introduce those malicious features can't make it stick to the
software, as in Proprietary software. As the source code is available with
the free software, the user of that Free Software can always take the
malicious feature out. So eventually, the Software will not contain any
malicious feature as it improves. Thus the intention of the person who
introduced the malicious feature will fail.

But this case will never happen with proprietary software. That is the
"better protection" Free Software gives.
