The correct kernel driver to be loaded for Intel onboard graphics is Intel
DRM aka "i915". Ie, when you do the command # lspci -v, i915 must be listed
as the kernel driver being used for the VGA Controller section. You can
verify this by using # lsmod command and confirm i915 module is loaded.

If you see "vesa" or anything similar listed against VGA controller driver
in lspci -v output, you are using the wrong driver.

So verify first whether you are using i915 or not.if not, i suppose there
must be some graphical tool in Ubuntu to force X to load Intel driver. Else
try the manual method of editing xorg.conf file and add 'Driver Intel' to
section "Device". Google for more details on how to do it.
