I certainly agree that we want to make sure the UI is not /dependent/  
on such fanciness, but I think it's acceptable for there to be some  
reasonable use of modern web UI tools, as long as the interface  
degrades gracefully.  Remember that we have users who require  
specialized browsers (e.g. screen talkers for the visually impaired)  
and some people who use text-only browsers like links/lynx.

I agree, although there's some work from the core to be done here.   
Too much of the functionality is embedded in Cgi scripts and not  
refactored out into utilities that other access methods could take  
advantage of.  List removal is something that comes to mind.  OTOH,  
this is something I have a keen interest in fixing.
