yes, as its easiest place in the whole signing verification scenario to
make a change that benefits the most people without adversely effecting
anyone significantly.

I didn't know this. Anyone know who these are and if they incur any
problems as result of this rewrite?
In Mailman, it's the "anonymous_list" setting, described thus:
"anonymous_list (general): Hide the sender of a message, replacing it with
the list address (Removes From, Sender and Reply-To fields)"
Probably mostly used for announcement only lists.
