Hello Mailman developers, My name is Tanmay (pecpo on Gitlab), an undergraduate CS student interested in contributing to GNU Mailman as a prospective GSoC 2026 participant.
I’ve set up and run the Mailman 3 suite locally, started exploring GitLab issues, and have had a small merge request (!1441) merged. I’m continuing to work on beginner-friendly issues while learning the codebase. I’m particularly interested in the Dynamic sublists and Topics project ideas. From reading the descriptions, it looks like both projects mainly involve modifying recipient determination in mailman-core (moving from list-level delivery toward thread/topic-based delivery from what I understand), with Postorius and HyperKitty mainly providing configuration and UI. I’ve started looking at membership handling and the message processing pipeline in mailman-core. Could you suggest specific modules or handlers I should focus on to better understand where delivery decisions are made? Thank you for your time and for maintaining Mailman.
