Hi Jim, I've just had a variation on this question very helpfully answered by this list; look in this month's archives for '/etc/aliases'. The short answer is that newlist prints to sdout what should be appended to /etc/aliases, and if called with the '-o <filename>' option also appends it to that file, which suggests that you should really be calling 'newlist -o /etc/aliases <listname>' etc. to get it to do the right thing.
